Isothermal Batch Reactor is a closed system with no input and output streams. A batch reactor can operate under conditions like Isothermal (Temperature of Reaction Mass remains constant), perfectly mixed (composition of reaction mixture is uniform throughout), and constant volume (volume of the reaction mixture within the reactor remains constant, there is no appreciable change in the density of reaction mass). This set-up is used to study a non-catalytic homogeneous reaction under isothermal condition.

The set up consists of a Reactor fitted in a constant temperature water bath. One stirrer is fitted for mixing the reactants in reactor and other is fitted in water bath to keep the uniform temperature throughout in the bath. The temperature of bath can be maintained from ambient to 90 C with the help of Digital Temperature indicator Cum Controller. Samples can be taken out with the help of a sampling pipette

The setup is designed to demonstrate principles of distillation in a Packed Column.

The column is made of Stainless Steel material packed with Borosilicate Glass matching rings. An electrically heated re-boiler is installed at the bottom of the column. The bottom product is collected in the tank. The vapors from the top of the column are condensed in the shell and tube type condenser by circulating cooling water and it is supplied by laboratory overhead tank.

The condensate is divided into reflux and distillate by automatic reflux divider and R/D Ratio can be varied. Reflux is fed back to the column and distillate is received in a receiving tank. The complete column is insulated for minimizing the heat loss. Instrumentation is done for pressure & temp measurement wherever is necessary

The set-up is designed to demonstrate and study the vapor-liquid equilibrium. As basic data of any distillation problem is the equilibrium between the liquid and vapor phases of the system subjected to distillation. Hence it is of great importance to study the VLE.
The set-up consists of distillation still with a heating element, shell & tube condenser, reflux & distillate section. A tank with the pump is provided to circulate cold water to the condenser. Flow rates can be regulated through control valve fitted. Instrumentation is done to measure the temperatures at different points.

A Digital Temp. The controller is connected to the heating element for precisely controlling & varying heat input. The vapors from the top of the column are condensed in the shell and tube type condenser by circulating cooling water. The condensate is collected in reflux drum and feedback to the column as reflux.

EXPERIMENTS:

To determine the vapor Liquid Equilibrium curve for CCl4 and Toluene or any other mixture.

In an ideal Continuously Stirred Tank Reactor, the contents of the reactor are well mixed and have a uniform composition throughout. Thus the exit stream has the same, composition as the fluid within the reactor. This type of reactor is known as mixed flow reactor. This set-up is used to study a non-catalytic homogeneous second order liquid phase reaction under ambient condition.

The set up consists of two feed tanks through which two reactants are fed to the reactor. Rotameters are provided to measure the individual flow of Chemicals. The flow rate can be adjusted by operating the needle valves provided on respective Rotameter. The magnetic drive pump is used for circulation of feed. The CSTR is fitted with a stirrer for proper mixing. From the top outlet of it, samples are collected for analysis
